Technical assistance to SEGITTUR for the preparation of follow-up reports on the Accessibility axis in 65 destinations of the Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI) Network.

The Challenge

The objective of this project was to support SEGITTUR’s DTI technical team in monitoring the accessibility axis diagnoses of destinations that are part of the DTI Network.

The assistance lasted 30 months and included work with 65 destinations.

The main challenge was to ensure a consistent, rigorous evaluation aligned with SEGITTUR’s standards, despite the diversity of information sources and the varying quality and depth of documentation provided by each destination.

This project was carried out with the invaluable collaboration and support of ACCEPLAN ACCESIBILIDAD and its entire technical team, who were responsible for the technical and operational aspects of the project.

The Process

To carry out the project, we followed a clear and collaborative methodology established by SEGITTUR, structured in several phases:

  1. We began by thoroughly reviewing the Diagnostic Report of each destination, along with all publicly available information on their websites and other open-access sources. Based on this analysis, we prepared the first version of the questionnaire, which included an initial validation of requirements and comments to help guide the destinations in gathering the necessary information.
  2. Through the coordinator assigned to each destination, we sent this initial version of the questionnaire for them to complete. Once we received their responses, we reviewed which requirements were sufficiently documented (and could therefore be validated), and which ones required additional information. In those cases, we requested further clarifications or supporting evidence.
  3. After receiving these clarifications, we conducted a final validation to confirm the remaining requirements and adjust responses if needed.
  4. Once the questionnaire was fully completed and validated, we drafted the Accessibility Axis Action Plan (PADTI) using the Excel-based tool provided by SEGITTUR, along with the rest of the required deliverables.

It is important to highlight that this entire process was carried out in close coordination with the SEGITTUR coordinator for each destination, whose input was invaluable to the success of the project.

Conclusion

This project enabled a precise and standardized follow-up of the accessibility axis in DTI Network destinations, supporting the work of SEGITTUR’s technical team in advancing this pioneering and innovative methodology.

The PADTIs generated provide destinations with validated, evidence-based data to support informed decision-making.

The applied methodology fostered agile communication with destinations and ensured the traceability of each validation, guaranteeing transparency and technical consistency throughout the process.

In turn, it meant a great deal of learning and adaptation for the project team, the first collaboration with ACCEPLAN ACCESIBILIDAD, and the beginning of a solid, empathetic and professional relationship, at all stages of the project.
