An innovative and interesting methodology that fosters creativity and engagement.

On May 4th, a group of tourism professionals from Pax#, Casa Batlló, Hotel Almanac and Yurbban Hotels, participated in an interesting and fruitful workshop on tourism sustainability with the Lego® Serious Play® methodology. The workshop, held in the cozy Kitchen Lab space of the Yurbban Passage Hotel, was designed by the Pax# team together with Juan David Escorcia, a certified facilitator in this methodology.

The Lego® Serious Play® methodology is based on encouraging creative thinking, active participation and collaboration aimed at obtaining tangible results through the simulation of real scenarios. It is therefore about generating group dynamics in a relaxed environment, to achieve joint reflection through different activities, solve internal blocks and progress towards team goals. In this way, a spirit of belonging, respect, collaboration and organic sharing of concepts, emotions and energies is also achieved.

During the workshop, participants (with different backgrounds within the tourism sector) were divided into groups to reflect on sustainability in the world of tourism through various exercises and activities. It is worth noting the fact that everyone had the opportunity to share their personal experience and opinions about the sector and sustainability. Through this “serious game”, all participants feel that they are really contributing to something, and all visions and points of view help to forge the final idea or conclusion.

In the case of the workshop on May 4, after about two hours (which seemed like 2 minutes!) and following various processes, the different groups came to the final conclusion that tourism sustainability is a process that is built collectively because it is through the collaboration and interaction between people, organizations and local entities that a greater commitment and transformation is achieved. The methodology positively surprised all attendees, as it unlocked thoughts through actions that bring out the most playful part of each person, thus being able to open one’s mind. Everything flowed in such a dynamic and enjoyable way that the conclusions reached would surely not have been possible with any other activity modality.

The benefits of Lego® Serious Play® are numerous, since projecting situations or challenges and addressing them in a fun and collaborative way facilitates the possibility of sharing thoughts, stimulates creativity and allows the use of visual, communicative and kinesthetic (i.e., movement) skills. In addition to this, it is a memorable experience, where participants enjoy themselves, as well as an excellent team-building exercise.
